At the time the Sears tower was constructed in 1974, it was the worlds tallest building, eclipsing New Yorks twin-towered World Trade Center by 25 meters (83 ft). It would keep the title of tallest building in the world until the Petronas twin towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia were constructed in 1997.
